“Henry was a fantastic tour guide, and besides being personable and funny, his engineering background brought an invaluable expertise during this 2-hour stroll through some of the city’s most stunning—and easily overlooked—sights.”
Henry might just be the nerdiest tour guide in Chicago.
Before joining the Inside Chicago team, Henry got his Masters degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and spent 3 years working as a Structural Engineer at a major firm in Chicago. Among the many high-rises he worked on are Salesforce Tower Chicago and The Reed at Southbank. He will tell you about it — loudly and often — as he shares the intricate and often surprising realities of designing tall buildings. Henry is passionate about good design and the way it improves the cities we love. Henry is a guide on our “All That Glam: Chicago’s Art Deco Masterpieces” tour, and is also our “in-house engineer” guide for our newest route, “Marvels & Masterpieces: An Engineer’s Guide to Chicago Architecture.” He is thrilled to be the first guide on Chicago’s only engineering-themed walking tour!
When he’s not talking about buildings, Henry can be found writing, bouldering, performing at the iO Theater, or running Dungeons and Dragons games for his fellow nerds. (Ask him about it if you want, but buckle up…)
